Attention SVHE members! We welcome your involvement in MFD's successor, the Program for Democratic Values and Practice. Here are just a few ways:

  • Bring SVHE to your campus! We can come to your campus, work with your faculty, staff, and students, and guide you through the tools in our toolkit. Or we can just get acquainted by introducing others on your campus to how the project works and its objectives.
  • Join us in an on-line discussion on educating for democracy: Jossey-Bass Publishers has sponsored a web sites where educators, students, and others can share views on preparing citizens, higher education's civic mission, and democratic values and practices. You join the conversation by going to the Jossey-Bass About Campus Forum and clicking to the discussion on Preparing Citizens: Teaching the Arts of Democracy.
  • Consider creating a link from our web site to an innovative values-based initiative on your campus: If you have a web site on an exciting project on integrity, diversity, social justice, civic responsibility, ethics, leadership, community building, spirituality, and/or reflective practices, send us a brief description and the web site. We'll post a direct link.
  • Add a book to our annotated bibliography by sending us the title, author, publisher, date of publication, and a brief (one to three paragraphs) description. We are trying to be selective by limiting the bibliography to books on core values (integrity, diversity, social justice, and civic responsibility) and the arts of democracy (sustainable dialogue, reflective practices, assessment, and collaborative action). We have yet to tackle the daunting world of other publications (e.g., articles), but would consider your suggestions.
  • Do you know others who are living the values and practices central to SVHE and would benefit from knowing about the project and/or becoming more involved in SVHE? Consider nominating them as members! Send your nomination letters to SVHE today! (svhe@unidial.com)
  • Host a regional breakfast: Share your interest and we will try to build it into the travel schedules of the project team.
  • The project is lean and in need of fund raising and grant writing skills. If you possess particular interest or skills in this area, let us know.
